Parable of the lost sheep
I am working on a series of five quilts about the parables of Jesus. They all are colorful with slivers of black and white for contrast. Right now I am on #4, the parable of the lost sheep. In the story, the shepherd left the 99 to hunt for the one lost sheep.
This quilt has a green patchwork center with 24 different strips of black and white as the larger border. In the center is a wooly sheep made from a white chenille bedspread. At first she was playful looking with a cartoon-like face and feet. Even though the quilt series looks playful in nature, it has deeper spiritual meanings. I reworked the sheep’s face to be more angular and serious. After looking at photographs of sheep, I found they have pointy feet unlike the squared-off ones I started with. I have corrected the problems.
I must study the quilt to see where I am led to make the quilting lines. So far, the center green is quilted in alternating M’s and W’s. I am still thinking about how to quilt the black and white and what color of thread I should use.
