Seeking perfection

I am wanting to get into the Southern Highlands Craft Guild which is a prestigious guild for the southern Appalachia area where I live.  These makers are world class, the best of the best.  At this point in my art career, why not try?

The guild wants five perfect pieces of art, five perfect images, and a written application that is perfect.  That is perfectly daunting!  Sometimes, I think to myself that this is too difficult a task and I should just forget it.  I ask myself, “Do I really want in the guild ?” and the answer always comes back, “Yes! Yes, I do!”  Sometimes a person needs validation for all of the hard work they put in, a sign that one has graduated.

Having a goal pushes me to do a better job and not skip any steps. All of a sudden things make sense.  I am working on cohesiveness in design and materials.  This produces quilts that look like only one certain person  made them.  Signature elements in my quilts are bright colors, fringe on the bottom, hidden words, and embellishments that come from recycled old jewelry, antique buttons, and sparkly things.

I am still working on the first “perfect” quilt.  I am doing my best.  We’ll have to wait and see what happens.
