Working on a commission

First Presbyterian Church in Johnson City, TN has asked me to make a Tree of Life wallhanging for the foyer of the church.  What a wonderful gift to be asked to make something that will bring glory to God.  Along with this gift is the responsibility to do an excellent job—no corners cut here! Every stitch I think about if this is good enough for God’s house.

At first, my sewing machine kept pulling the thread to the bottom area and making a “bird’s nest.”  I had to rip out a section that was difficult to do in the first place and now I had to stitch it a second time.  Later, I found out I could order a foot plate that would cause the stitching to smoothly move along.

It is daunting to be working on art that is to be used to enhance worship.  I wonder if Bezalel and Oholiab ,who were the craftsmen who made the tabernacle in the Old Testament, felt the same way.
